Driver doesn't get away from injury accident

An unlicensed driver driving an uninsured car was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident Sunday night, police said.

Gustavo Adolfo Garcia, 26, Buckingham Lane, allegedly struck the rear of a car driven by Cory Henderson, Wesley Street, on Lane Parkway early Sunday night and drove away. The impact caused the Henderson car to strike a utility pole, the report said.

Henderson was taken to Heritage Medical Center for treatment, according to investigators.

Lt. Mike Baker said he spotted a car matching a description given by Henderson on Buckingham Lane.

Henderson identified Garcia as the driver and the Garcia car had paint marks matching Henderson's vehicle, police said.

The Garcia car was uninsured, police said.

Garcia is being held on $10,000 bond at Bedford County Jail.

Drug charges

*Drugs were found in a car stopped on Lane Parkway due to an expired license tag Friday night, police said.

Shakia Oshana Hamler, 19, Landers Street, was charged with possession of schedule VI drug, possession of schedule II drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, Officer Sam Jacobs said.

The car smelled of marijuana and Hamler refused a request to search the interior, Jacobs said. Drug dog Remy was brought to the car by Officer Tracey Nelson and alerted, the report said, and a subsequent search revealed 1.62 grams of marijuana in Hamler's purse and plastic and a straw containing "white powder residue."

Hamler was also charged with violation of the registration and financial responsibility laws. She was released on $4,500 bond.

*A marijuana-filled cigar was found in an ash tray and prescription drugs in clothing within a vehicle Friday, police said, leading to the arrest of two occupants,

Richard Patrick Bennett, 22, Coop Road, the driver, and Nichole Clarice Adcock, 25, Belmont Avenue, were arrested after police were told of two persons passed out in a car at a Madison Street parking lot.

Police arrested Bennett on two charges of possession of a schedule III drug and one charge each of possession of schedule VI and IV drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, DUI and violation of the implied consent law (refusal to submit to a drug test). He was being held on $11,500 bond Monday at Bedford County Jail.

Adcock was charged with three counts of possession of a schedule III drug and one count each of possession of a schedule IV drug and simple possession. She posted $9,500 bond.

*Marijuana was also found on a DUI suspect after a traffic stop on Bethany Lane early Sunday, police said.

Terry Ray Childers, 47, Tollgate Road, allegedly had 5.02 grams of marijuana and a pack of rolling papers in his possession when searched at Bedford County Jail.

Childers was charged with DUI, simple possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, introducing contraband into a penal institution and violation of the implied consent law. He posted $7,500 bond.

Thefts

*A Xbox 360 and iTouch were stolen from a Whiteside Street home during the day Thursday, police said.

Entry was gained through an unlocked door, according to the report.

*A Shelbyville woman told police she suspects her wallet was stolen while visiting a Earnhart Street home Wednesday.

The wallet contained $50, she said.
