Charges reduced against man with blue lights

Thursday, February 25, 2010
A Lebanon man accused of attempting to conduct a traffic stop using blue lights in Shelbyville in November 2009 is instead being fined for a lesser charge, officials say.

A charge of criminal impersonation of a police officer against Michael Angelo DeSantis II was reduced to possession of blue lights, according to documentation at Circuit Court Clerk Thomas Smith's office.

DeSantis said he had blue strobe lights on the dashboard of his car and activated them while attempting to slow speeding drivers on Center Street, a report filed at the time by Officer Gregg Loyd said.

According to the report, another driver pulled over upon seeing the lights. DeSantis didn't actually get out of his car and eventually drove away, Loyd said.
