Suspect resists even after pepper spray

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
Weekend drug arrests in Shelbyville included a man who allegedly continued resisting officers after being sprayed with pepper spray, according to Shelbyville police.

David Michael McBee, 22, Eagle Boulevard, ran from officers Friday night and disobeyed orders to stop until stepping into a pothole and falling on his face, Officer Jose Garza's report said.

McBee allegedly got up and kept reaching into a pocket. He was sprayed and "put on the ground" by Garza and Officer Jerry Draine after allegedly refusing to get his hand out of the pocket.

Draine found a bag containing 5.90 grams of marijuana in the back seat of his patrol car next to McBee, the report said.

Police had been called to the home to investigate a "dispute," Garza said.

McBee was charged with public intoxication, resisting arrest and possession of schedule VI drug, police said. He posted $3,500 bond.

* A woman whose car ran off Bethany Lane at Prince Street was charged with drug-related offenses Friday afternoon.

April Michelle Coleman, 27, whose address was listed as the Tennessee side of the Fort Campbell military base, had approximately 4.65 grams of marijuana in her purse when booked at Bedford County Jail, Officer Jeff Goodrich's report said.

Coleman, who allegedly told police she had taken prescription medication, was charged with possession of a schedule VI drug, introducing contraband into a penal institution and DUI. She posted $3,000 bond.

Losing effort

A Shelbyville resident told police she answered a scammer's request for $450 "insurance money" after being told upon receipt $90,000 she'd won would be shipped.

Officer Bruce Davis said the scammer called twice while he was at the victim's home. The man "hung up immediately" when told he was talking to an officer, Davis said.
