The Community Vikings opened their season with a bang by pounding out 13 hits to score 11 runs while holding Bedford County rival Webb to one run on just three hits on Monday afternoon.

The Purple and Gold (1-0) struck for three runs in the first on a lead-off single by Cody Pierce, followed by a single off the bat of Joseph Freebury to move him to third. Lance Paschal hit a ball that Webb first baseman Zach Fenner was unable to get a handle on to allow the two Viking runners to score.

Kelby Demonbreum picked up his first RBI of the season with a solid knock into right-center field to make the score 3-0.

After an uneventful second inning for either team, the home team exploded for seven runs in the third inning to effectively put the game out of reach. Pierce, Paschal, Sammy Bryant, Austin Thurber and Trey Barnes all had hits in the inning to give the Vikings control of the game.

Paschal picked up the win on the bump with three solid innings of no-hit ball. He struck out six hitters while walking three.

Sam Hulsey pitched for the Feet (0-1) and was the victim of several defensive miscues behind him.

Robert Cortner, Logan Burchett and Chase Adcock had a single each for Webb.

Demonbreum led the Community offensive effort with three hits in as many trips to the plate. Pierce and Paschal added two hits and two runs scored apiece.

The two teams square off again today at 4:30 at Webb.
