The Community Vikings made it two in a row with a 9-3 win over Webb on Tuesday afternoon in a well played game by both squads.

Community (2-0) scored first on a lead-off double by Cody Pierce, who came around to score on an RBI single by Joseph Freebury in the opening inning.

The Feet (0-2) stormed right back to take the lead when Dray Curtis singled, Robert Cortner worked his way on via a walk and Sam Hulsey chased both runners home with a solid line drive in front of Viking left fielder Trey Barnes to put his team ahead 2-1.

"I liked the way our team responded when Webb came back and took the lead," Viking coach Will Caster said. "There was no letdown. They took a very businesslike approach to the game and came up with some big hits against one of the better pitchers that we will see this season."

Community bounced back with a three-run third inning on the strength of a leadoff hit by Logan Pierce, who was moved into scoring position by Cody Pierce with a hit right back where it came from.

After a Michael Smith walk to load the bases, Freebury hit a sharp ground ball that the shortstop was unable to field allowing two runs to score. Smith scored the third run when he wandered off base too far and was caught between third and home on the pick-off move by Feet pitcher Logan Burchett.

Smith managed to slide around the tag of catcher Robert Cortner for a 4-2 Viking lead.

The Feet cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth on an RBI hit by Hunter Foley to score Bil Carter, who reached via a base on balls.

Lance Paschal got things rolling again in the fifth with a base hit and scored on a double by Kelby Demonbreum, who continues to swing a hot bat for the Vikings.

Trey Barnes' drive between the eight and nine hole in the outfield resulted in Demonbreum crossing the plate to make the score 6-3 in favor of the visitors.

Foley and Hulsey led off the final two innings with hits for the Feet but they were unable to break through against the offerings of Community senior Cody Pierce.

The Purple and Gold added a run in the fifth and capped off the scoring with two runs in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Cody Pierce and Freebury and consecutive singles by Smith and Tom Nelson.

"It is good to get off to a good start to the season," Caster said. "We have some work to do to get ready for the district but I feel good about our progress so far."

Cody Pierce ended the game with four hits in four trips, including two doubles and three runs scored.

Freebury added three hits and Logan Pierce and Trey Barnes joined the hit parade with two knocks each for Community.

Curtis and Hulsey led the Feet with two hits apiece.

Community welcomes Watertown on Thursday at 5 following a JV contest with a 3:30 start.
