Errors plague Champs in Fayetteville

Friday, March 19, 2010
Cascade's baseball team was its own worst enemy Thursday as six errors and a lack of timely hitting led to a 9-5 loss at Lincoln County.

The Champions (1-1) left 13 men on base, including three innings where they were retired with the bases loaded.

Falcon Evan Pittenger pitched four scoreless innings to pick up the win.

Cascade starting pitcher Kyle Saylor was the victim of six unearned runs. He struck out three and walked three in two frames. Jared Carkuff fanned eight and issued one free pass in three innings of one-hit relief.

Lincoln County's Owen Blackwelder, Elliott Bush, Jeffrey Howard and Forrest King had two hits apiece.

Carkuff singled three times. Gavin Elmore chipped in two hits.

The Fayetteville bunch extended a 2-0 lead after one to 8-0 thanks to three Champion errors in the bottom of the second.

Cascade fought back with a four-run sixth but it was too little, too late.

The Orange and Black travel to take on defending Class A state champion Summertown today at 4.
