Thomas seeks re-election to county commission

Mark Thomas has announced his candidacy for re-election to a Ninth District seat on Bedford County Board of Commissioners in the Aug. 3 general election.

Thomas is the chief of Bedford County Fire Department. He has been with the county fire department a total of 29 years. During part of that time, the department was an independent non-profit known as Volunteer Fire Services Inc. It is now once again a division of county government.

Thomas is a member of the Tennessee Association of Fire Chiefs Disaster Planning Committee, the Bedford County Emergency Communications District (E-911) board, and the Sixth District Homeland Security Council.

Thomas has also worked for 23 years with the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration, serving on the security team during the annual event.

Thomas is a Bedford County native raised in the Ninth District. He is a graduate of Central High School and various fire training programs.

Thomas and his wife Donna have two children. He is an active member of Fair Haven Baptist Church.

"Even though we've been in tough economic times, I've enjoyed serving the people," said Thomas. "I feel like I serve everyone, whether they are in my district or not. I try to represent them all."
