As the summer kicks into full swing, the start of school gets closer and closer, meaning that it's time for Bedford County United Way's annual "Stuff the Bus."

The drive collects school supplies for needy children throughout Bedford County.

"Over the years, we've collected an average of 7,000 items per year," said Dawn Holley, Bedford County United Way executive director.

United Way is partnering with Walmart and the Bedford County school system.

Drop boxes for the supplies will be located at businesses throughout Bedford County starting this week.

"We hope to get the supplies to the schools before school starts," said Connie Boutwell, United Way committee member.

A school bus will be parked outside Walmart on July 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will be available to take donations at that time.
