Bobby Vannatta has announced his candidacy for re-election to a second district seat on the Bedford County Board of Commissioners in the August 5th general election.

Vannatta was first elected to the Commission in 1994. He currently serves on the financial management committee.

Vannatta is a graduate of Bell Buckle High School and a four-year veteran of the United States Air Force. A lifelong resident of Bedford County, Vannatta lives on and operates a farm that has been in his family since 1849. Vannatta is a former Tennessee deputy commissioner of agriculture and continues to serve on several state and national agriculture-related boards. Vannatta was Tennessee's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1971 and the Sunbelt Expo Farmer of the Year in 1995.

Vannatta is a former director of DREMC board of directors and past president of the Shelbyville Jaycees.

"I feel that being a county commissioner allows me the opportunity to work with our county mayor and the other members of the county commission to make Bedford County a better place to live, work and raise a family. We need less government, better schools and a tighter rein on our spending. I will listen and support the citizens of our county as I strive to be a fair and honest public servant. It is my goal to continue to work hard to preserve our American way of life."

Vannatta is a member of Fairlane Church of Christ. He is married to the former Linda Joyce and has three children.
