Layoff hurts Junior Legion in state losses

The rust gathered over the course of the 14-day TSSAA-mandated dead period showed for Shelbyville Post 23 in the Junior American Legion state tournament in Gallatin.

Shelbyville never settled in and lost its first game of the tourney to Smyrna 11-1 on Thursday.

Reed Emerson and Shaq Thompson did the pitching for Post 23.

Lebanon 12, Shelbyville 7: In an elimination game later Thursday, Post 23 handed its foes 11 unearned runs thanks mostly to six errors.

Post 23 had its chances at the plate as 10 batters were hit by pitches but 13 were stranded on base.

Seth Jarrell and Jacob West handled the mound work for Shelbyville.
