Viqueen volleyball dominant in opener
Community swept host Hampshire 25-19, 25-14, 25-14 to kickstart its volleyball season on Monday.
"It was a great start for the season," Community coach Allison Layne-Martin said. "We were a little out of sync to start off but soon got into a rhythm with our serving that helped the rest of our game. Nerves were a key factor in the first several points but once we settled down we began to play really good. I look forward to a great season."
Viqueen senior Georgia Ralston opened the first game with six straight service points. She finished with a total of 16 points, nine kills and three digs.
The visitors closed out the third game in grand fashion as Allison Perryman served up seven consecutive points to separate themselves from Hampshire. Kristin Ray finished off their foes with six points in a row.
Perryman wound up with 15 points, including three aces. Ray contributed 10 points with three aces. Hannah Busbee contributed eight points and six kills. CorrieAnn Hickerson had seven digs.
Community's home opener is against Columbia Academy this afternoon at 5.
