2 hurt after tire blows

Two Georgia residents were injured Sunday near Normandy after the rear tire of their motorcycle blew.

Stephanie R. Rasmussen, 39, of Hoschton, Ga., was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Vanderbilt Medical Center following the accident on Cortner Mill Road. She suffered "lower broken extremities," State Trooper Barry Qualls said.

Rasmussen was a passenger on a motorcycle driven by her husband, Kevin Rasmussen, 40, who was taken to Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma for treatment of a broken collarbone, Qualls said.

The tire blew as the Rasmussens were coming down the hill off Dement Road, Qualls said. "He held it as long as he could."

Thefts

* Over $3,000 worth of tools were stolen from an unlocked shop building at a Snell Road on Friday or Saturday, a report by Cpl. Rick Gann of the Bedford County Sheriff's Department said.

No signs of forced entry were found, the report said.

* Two persons stole a Cliffside Drive resident's rent check from her mailbox while distracting her Friday, Shelbyville police said.

The resident said a man who appeared to have been drinking stopped at her home got out of his car with two pieces of paper in his hand and "seemed to be distracting her" while a woman went toward her mailbox and later appeared to be hiding something in the car's floorboard.

The man was described as white, approximately 6 feet tall and slender while the woman was white with blue eyes and blonde hair.

Also reported to Shelbyville police:

* A 4-foot-tall Rebel flag mounted on a stick was stolen shortly before midnight Friday from the bed of a truck at Walmart.

* A tow hitch receiver was stolen from a car between Wednesday and Friday at Davis Estates Apartments, Anthony Lane.

* Two checks were stolen from a Green Lane residence Monday.
