City councilmen face opposition

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Shelbyville Mayor Wallace Cartwright and Normandy Mayor Larry Nee will be unopposed for re-election on the Nov. 2 general election ballot, as will Normandy alderman Evelyn Hittson, but there will be contested races for Wartrace mayor, three Shelbyville city council seats and two Wartrace alderman seats.

Shelbyville, Normandy and Wartrace will have municipal elections in November; Bell Buckle held its election in August. Also on the Nov. 2 ballot will be races for governor, U.S. House and Tennessee House.

The deadline for candidates to qualify for the ballot was Aug. 19, and Aug. 26 was the deadline for candidates who had qualified to remove themselves.

One more deadline remains: candidates not on the ballot who wish for their write-in votes to be counted have until noon Monday to notify the county election office.
