Such was the case Thursday night when the Eaglettes fell 3-2 to the visiting Lady Wildcats in a District 8-AAA matchup.
Lauren Warren and Tiana Sanders scored the Eaglettes' goals in the second half.
"This was a usual Shelbyville-Tullahoma blockbuster soccer match," Eaglette coach Neal Gordon said. "I thought both teams played well but we struggled at times to clear the ball out of the box which led to their scores."
Tullahoma scored the lone goal of the first half.
"I challenged the kids to come out in the second half and score and they did respond. We have been struggling a bit to score thus far this season and I was glad to see us score a couple of goals in the second half," Gordon said. "I thought Taylor Bearden really played well defensively and Kali Hayes and Lorrie Rittenberry did a great job of getting the ball up front for us tonight."
The Eaglettes (1-5, 1-1) travel to Oakland for a non-district match on Tuesday.
"We're still a young team that is a work in progress and I can see some improvement from the start of the season," Gordon said.
