Al Stephenson has announced his candidacy for a 2nd Ward seat on Shelbyville City Council in the Nov. 2 general election.

Stephenson served as mayor from 1995 to 1999 and is now completing his first term on the council. He has served seven years on Shelbyville Municipal Planning Commission and on the Bedford Railroad Authority board. He is an alumnus of Leadership Bedford. He holds a certificate for government leadership from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville's Institute for Public Service. "I have and will continue to vote against wasteful spending," said Stephenson. "Check my record and it will show I have not voted to waste any of your and my money. I will work with the Chamber to get more jobs and businesses in Shelbyville. It has been a pleasure to serve you, the citizens, for the past three years, and hope you will let me serve your for four more years."
