Selections from some of the most beloved musicals in theatre history will highlight the Nashville Symphony's annual concert in Shelbyville, planned for May 3 at Calsonic Arena.

The annual "Symphony At The Celebration" concert will also feature the Cascade High School Band and the Motlow College Jazz Band.

The concert is intended to be casual-dress and family-friendly.

The Grammy-winning Nashville Symphony, under the direction of resident conductor Albert-George Schram, will perform selections from "West Side Story," "Les Miserables," "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Grease," as well as from John Williams' score to the movie "Hook," and will perform a medley honoring Irving Berlin.

The Cascade band, under the direction of David Lucich, will perform on its own during the first half of the concert and then will join the Nashville Symphony for three selections to close out the evening.

An art show on the arena concourse will feature work ranging from elementary school drawings to professional paintings and sculptures. The Nashville Symphony will bring its "instrument petting zoo," allowing children to touch and play actual symphonic instruments under the watchful eye of symphony volunteers.

The Motlow jazz band, directed by Tom Breece, will provide pre-concert and intermission entertainment. The pre-concert will begin at 6 p.m., and patrons are invited to bring a picnic supper (or purchase concessions on-site) to enjoy during that time. The art show and the instrument petting zoo will also be open during the pre-concert period.

Children and students will be admitted free of charge to the concert; adult general admission is only $5, with all proceeds to benefit Bedford County Arts Council. Box seat tickets will be $10 each in groups of 6 or 8. Tickets will be available as soon as Friday at Shelbyville and Tullahoma locations of Regions Bank and at the door on the night of the concert. Box seat tickets will be available at the Elm Street branch only.

The actual cost of the concert is borne by sponsors, including Regions Bank, the primary sponsor of the Nashville Symphony's community concert series; Economy Pen & Pencil Company; and The Celebration.
