Students in Service

Sunday, May 1, 2011

Nikki Nguyen, a Webb junior from Vietnam, volunteered her time by assisting teachers at Cascade Elementary School.
Students from The Webb School in Bell Buckle participated in their annual Community Service Day last Thursday, April 21.

After determining areas they felt were most in need of their help, students traveled throughout Bedford, Coffee, Rutherford and Davidson Counties.

One of the larger groups of students who remained in Bedford County visited Cascade Elementary School, where students helped with a student book fair and other Easter festivities.

"Students quickly bonded with the elementary students and were not ready to leave in the end," said Angela Rasnick, Webb faculty member. "Community Service Day gives Webb students an opportunity to see the needs in our community, share their talents with others, and experience opportunities that may lead to career choices."

Other organizations helped by Webb students efforts last Thursday include the Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, regional food banks, St. Jude's Children's Hospital and other local cleanup efforts.

That is a great way to give to the community. I say thanks to the students that helped out. They will hopefully inspire others to do the same thing.
