Bell Buckle is hosting its first-ever Mutts in May celebration on Saturday, a day-long event that will provide fun for families as well as their furry friends.
"We thought it would be something different," said Bell Buckle Chamber of Commerce president Joe Sheetz, who gave credit for the idea to Maggi Vaughn and Annie Rooney. "Everybody loves their pets. We like to show ours off and we thought we'd love to give everybody a chance to show their pets off."
There will be lots of chances, too. Races, pet costume contests, look-alike contests, and much more are scheduled.
"We'll have contests for the shortest tails, most spots, tricks ... a lot of things," said Sheetz. "We'll also have live entertainment."
Performances on behalf of Paws 4 Health will include Country Music Hall of Fame Ambassador David Andersen, Dan Schafer, and Moore & Moore (Debbie & Carrie). Paws 4 health is a Nashville-based organization committed to encouraging pet owners to offer healthy foods and healthy alternatives for their pets.
Also appearing on behalf of Paws 4 Health will be the talented singer, songwriter and member of the Grand Ole Opry, Jeannie Seely and her precious companion Cheyenne.
"Jeannie Seely will be in town signing autographs," said Sheetz. "We've got a canine massage therapist who will be there. We've got an artist drawing your pet and the Happy Tails adoption agency will be there."
There will also be vendors, he added, and "lots of food."
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is free. Everyone is encouraged to bring their pets and enjoy the Mutts in May.
"There are not a lot of places you can go and have a good time and bring your pet," said Sheetz. "Not only will you have a good time, but your best friend will have a good time."
