CINCINNATI -- Hello from Great American Ballpark.

Over the next few days I'll be covering the Reds and the Rockies.

It's a special series to me for a couple of reasons. First, it's my first time to see former Community and Shelbyville Central standout Rex Brothers pitch in the major leagues. Second, I've been a huge Reds fan since I was a kid.

The Rockies defeated Cincinnati 10-7 on Monday night in a game that featured six home runs, three by each team.

Even though Rex gave one up to Cincinnati all-star Brandon Phillips, It was a neat experience to see him exit the Colorado bullpen and head toward the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning.

To see someone that I used to watch pitch when he was 12 years old pitch in the major leagues was just an awesome experience and one that I will never forget.

There was an approximate two-hour rain delay during the game and I had the opportunity to talk to Reds manager Dusty Baker and a number of players in the dugout.

That's also an experience I'll always remember.

I have plans to join Rex for lunch today and spend a little time with him before he has to go to the park.

His accomplishments thus far are something for which everyone who knows him should be proud.
