Celebration prelims wind down

Wednesday was the final night of preliminary classes at the 73rd annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration. Spectators will be treated to World Grand Championship classes and victory rides adorned with floral horseshoes tonight through Saturday.

The night opened with the Fine Harness class where nine teams competed. Jazz's Master and Brandye Mills taking the blue. Carolina Confederate and Mickey McCormick drove home with the reserve ribbon.

Owner-Amateur Riders on Three-Year-Old Walking Mares or Geldings was up next on the program, with two divisions. Getting the blue ribbon in the A division was She Has Status and Joyce Meadows. Lee McGartland and She's A Shady Sister took the blue in the B Division.

The trainers on Walking Geldings, Five Years and Over, Over 15.2 (Canter) made their way to the big oval for Championship honors. The judges chose Like A Rolling Stone for the winner's circle. Bill Callaway and General's Showstopper pulled in for reserve honors.

Park Performance Walking Horses, Five-Years and Over were up next. Topping the class and taking the blue was Moonshine Man and Phillip Trimble. Jose's Moonlight Dreamgirl and Don Waddell accepted the reserve honors.

The Amateur Owned and Trained Walking Horses, No Professional Training within 90 Days, came into the ring next. Blue ribbon honors went to Ego with Phillip Curlee owning and exhibiting the winner. Pardon Me Governor took the reserve place in the class as ridden by Harrell Bond Jones II.

Paroled in Texas and John Allan Callaway rode in the Young Trainers, 35 and Under on Walking Mares or Geldings, and rode out with the blue. Sam Martin and Jose's Miss Dolly accepted the red streamers.

Next came the Owner-Amateur Riders on Walking Stallions, Five Years and Over, (Canter) as they made their way down from the warm up area. NYPD and Kenny Compton captured the crowd's approval and the blue. On The Line and Suzanne Moore walked away with reserve honors.

The Mare and Foal class showcased the beautiful natural stepping breed. Whoop! It In Command and Snookie Majors, handled by Nathan Mills and Joe Cotton walked out proudly with unanimous votes for the World Championship honors. Princess Showboat and Rumble Of The Storm, handled by Bobbi Kay Hein and Bobby Richards, were reserve in this class.

Steve Dunn and Escape From Alcatraz took the blue in the Walking Horses, Mares and Geldings while Goodbye Joe and John Allen Callaway rode away with the reserve recognition.

Yao Ming and Nicole Coffey rode out with the blue just as they did in 2010 in the Park Pleasure Walking Stallions, Five Years and Over class. Expedited and Patrick Thomas took a respectable reserve tie.

The Walking Horses, Five Years and Over had an impressive 17-entry showing. The audience was ecstatic as John F K's Pusher and Justin Harris took the blue. John Allan Callaway aboard Above The Line brought the reserve ribbon home for Patricia Spivey of Jefferson City.

The Celebration continues through Sept. 3.
