The section, printed on pink newsprint, will profile Bedford Countians affected by the disease. Readers are encouraged to submit stories of inspiration and survival, their own or of friends and loved ones, to the newspaper before Sept. 30.
In addition to serving as a visual symbol of breast cancer awareness, the content will again be informative and encouraging.
"This new section last year generated much attention and conversation plus generated proceeds for two related charities helping Bedford County," said Publisher Hugh Jones. "The cover last year summed up the message -- 'Coming together for support, awareness and survivorship.' "
The section offers a wide range of stories related to breast cancer, including stories about awareness, early prevention, screening, local support groups, regional events, local survivors and more.
A portion of the proceeds earned from this section will go to the Bedford County Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
Net newspaper sales in October from two newspaper racks painted pink will also go to the charities.
Pink racks will be located at the Times-Gazette and outside the Shelbyville post office.
Also, businesses wishing to support breast cancer awareness in the section may contact the T-G advertising department. Story submissions should be e-mailed to Sadie Fowler at email@example.com.
