For the first time in school history, the Cascade Champions competed in the A-AA state golf tournament, which was held at the Willow Brook Golf Club in Manchester on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After the two-day tournament had concluded, the Champs finished eighth overall as a team with a combined score of 671.

"I'm extremely proud of the boys," said coach Chad Spencer.

After day one, Jake Pimental finished with a 76, and was in the hunt to be a medalist in the match. Blake England wasn't far behind Pimental after the first day of competition. After 18 holes, England was sitting with an 82. Lucas Dunavant finished third for the Champs after the first round with a 43 on both the front and back nine to finish with an 86 on the day.

Bryce Clinton and Chad Gordon rounded out the scores for the Champs after day one. Both Clinton and Gordon each shot a 93.

During day two of the competition, Pimental followed up his 76 with an 81 to finish with 156 for the tournament. England repeated his performance from day one and finished day two with an 82, which brought his tournament score to 164. Dunavant bettered his score from day one by four strokes to finish with an 82 during day two. The improvement brought his final score 168.

Clinton also improved from his first round and dropped four strokes to finish day two with an 89. Gordon repeated his 93 from day one and finished the tournament with a 186.

"It was a great year and I'm proud. We finished eighth in the state to schools bigger than us," Spencer said.

Although the 2011 season is in the books for the Champs, there's no doubt that Cascade will return next year as dangerous competition. With only one senior on the team, four of the five Champion golfers will return next season.
