The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Bedford County committee is in the process of developing a survivor calendar as a fundraiser for the next Relay, which will be held June 1, 2012 at Bedford County Agriculture and Education Center.

Local residents who are cancer survivors are being asked to participate by donating non-returnable photos of themselves to be featured in the calendar for their particular birthday month.

Photos can be dropped off at the Times-Gazette offices, 323 E. Depot St.; Traders Bank; or Hair 'N Company. Envelopes are available next to the drop box with instructions, including instructions for e-mailing photos or pre-ordering copies of the calendar.

Photos will not be returned, so if they are unique a high-quality scanned copy should be submitted instead of the original. The photo departments of local pharmacies and superstores can assist in this process.

"We hope this will be a great way that folks here in Bedford County can see all those friends and neighbors who have survived cancer and celebrate another birthday with them, while also keeping track of all those special birthdays and occasions to celebrate in their own lives," said Samantha Chamblee, event chair for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Bedford County.

There is no charge to submit a photo for the calendar. The calendars, which will be for 2013, will be available to order for a minimum donation of $15.

Funds raised will go to support ACS and help people stay well through education about cancer prevention and early detection, get well through Society programs and services, find cures through research, and fight back by advocating for cancer patients and by rallying communities like Bedford County together against the disease.
