If "Griswold" is in your Christmas lexicon, this one's for you.
The Shelbyville-Bedford County Beautification Committee launched a new effort for December -- they seek to recognize and award local homes or businesses who decorate for the holidays. The contest replaces the December beatification awards which the Chamber awards monthly to homes and businesses around town.
The competition was announced in October, but as of today, the committee hasn't received a single nomination.
"We still have time to get some entries," said Lynn Hulan, who heads the committee's efforts.
If yours is the yard that attracts drive-bys during the month of December, or if your neighbor is annoyingly or delightfully decorative, submit the address to the Chamber of Commerce. There's no cash prize, but you can't put a money value on bragging rights.
Deadline for entries is Friday. Judging will take place the following week. To submit a nomination, e-mail email@example.com or call 684-3482.
"Anybody who reads the Times-Gazette knows we do these awards, but we wanted to do something a little different for December to boost holiday spirit," said Charlene Nelson, who has been a member of the beautification committee for five years.
