Cook is a member of Shelbyville Benevolent Lodge. He served on the United Way of Bedford County board of directors from 2005 to 2011, is a member and past chair of its allocations committee, and was a member of its audit committee for two years. Cook and his wife Jennifer have been married for five years and have one daughter. They are members of Southside Church of Christ.

"I will strive to serve and make a difference in the lives of the citizens of Bedford County," said Cook. "I will be an independent thinking member of the board and vote for what I feel is in the best interest for all of our students, teachers, parents, and residents of Bedford County. I have managed with an open door and transparent environment and will serve on the school board in the same manner if elected. I would appreciate your vote and support on August 2, 2012."
