Will your child celebrate a fourth or fifth birthday by September 30? It may be time to consider registration for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten classes in Bedford County Schools.
For those turning four, only 60 pre-K slots are available, and any interested parents may apply. Registrations for pre-K classes will be held May 2 and 3 at the Bedford County Board of Education (Central Office), 500 Madison Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Registrants must provide a certified copy of the child's birth certificate and verification of parent's income. The program is only open to students who qualify for federal assistance through the free and reduced lunch program. If accepted, students will be required to complete a physical and be current on all immunizations by the time school starts in the fall.
Applications will still be considered after the initial May enrollment, but if space is not available, the student may be placed on a waiting list.
For pre-K students, parents are responsible for transportation to and from school. The program hours are from 7:45 AM -- 1:30 PM, Monday through Friday. These classes follow the regular school calendar.
Regular kindergarten registration is open to all county students who will be five years old by September 30. Registration will be held at each elementary school on May 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents will need to bring a certified birth certificate and proof of address. Documentation of a doctor's physical and current immunizations should be completed by the start of the school year, August 6.
For questions regarding which school your child is zoned to attend, please contact the Central Office at 684-3284.
