The Eighth Annual Wartrace MusicFest, June 1-2, will showcase bluegrass, blues and barbecue, say organizers.

Thirteen bands will take the outdoor stage beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 1, as a full night of bluegrass music kicks off featuring Missionary Ridge, Lonesome Valley Grass, Friday Night Orphan Brigade, Golden Hollow, Spur of the Moment, the Steve Gallagher Trio, and Just Thrown Together.

Saturday night is all blues and rock with the Nashville Blues Society bringing in all-star bands including Chess recording artist James "Nick" Nixon, winner of the Music City Blues Society's 2001 Male Vocalist Of The Year award. Headliners also include Californian Bobby Cochran, nephew of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend Eddie Cochran and former lead guitarist for John Kay & Steppenwolf. Other featured Saturday night acts include Nashville's Bad Moon Blues Band, Soul Patch, the Andy T Band, the Markey Blues Band, and regional favorites Midnight Special and the McKenzie-Fox Band.

Ron Stacy, mayor of Wartrace and chair of the MusicFest committee, is enthusiastic about the changes to this year's festival.

"Not only are we raising the bar on the caliber of musicianship, we hope to make the event a more intimate experience for the music fan by bringing in extra seating closer to the stage, starting the entertainment at a later hour when it's cooler, and continuing the music until midnight," he said.

Festival attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Alcohol is prohibited.

The third shining star complimenting Bluegrass & Blues will be smoked Bar-B-Que. The menu includes beans, cornbread, cobbler and ice cream.

Tickets, available at the gate, are $5 per person and children under 12 are admitted free. Free parking will be provided and rough camping sites are available. Visit www.wartracemusicfest.org or call (931) 389-6144 for more information.

Wartrace MusicFest, a non-profit event, is produced by the Town of Wartrace and the Wartrace Chamber of Commerce for community improvements to the Town of Wartrace.
