Pipe bomb explodes in city; more may have gone off
At least one and possibly three pipe bombs were detonated in Shelbyville on Wednesday night, police said.
A witness saw a flash and heard a loud "bang" on Fairground Heights near Bethany Lane and found some plastic resin, police said.
The witness saw a green Ford Ranger with a non-matching tailgate and possibly a ladder in the bed leaving the area.
Another caller heard a loud noise on Rock Street and callers from Blue Ribbon Parkway and Edgemont Drive heard loud noises in the Gowen Drive area, police said.
A citzen's call of "possible drug traffic" at an East Lane Street residence resulted in a Bedford County man being charged in connection with alleged crack cocaine possession Wednesday, police said.
Officers were given a description of a suspect's truck. As they arrived Tony Ahareda Palomino, 36, of Midland Road opened the truck's door and placed "something" on the seat, officer Tracey Nelson said.
Approximately 0.08 grams of crack cocaine was found on the truck's passenger seat and 0.04 grams in Palomino's shirt pocket, Nelson said.
Palomino was charged with possession of a schedule II drug and public intoxication. He posted $3,000 bond.
*A ring and several containers of medication were taken from a Stonefield Circle residence between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
*A .38 special revolver was stolen from a Stonegate Circle home sometime within the past two years, police were told Tuesday.
