William A. 'Bill' Parks

William Alfred "Bill" Parks, age 83, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 in Nashville ,Tennessee after a short illness.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held Friday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. Both events will be at the Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church on Union Street. Officiating will be Reverends Matt Mason, Michael Bayne and Jonathan Sims. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born January 20, 1929 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to the late William Berthal and Katie Sue Eaton Parks. He and his parents moved to Bedford County Tennessee at a young age where he lived the rest of his life. He was educated in the Bedford County school system and graduated from high school in 1947.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of almost 60 years and four of his children, Larry (Donna) Shelbyville; Laura (Anthony) Phillips of Tullahoma, Leland (Melody) of Bloomfield, KY and Lyndell who lives in Murfreesboro. He is preceded in death by a son, Leslie Trent Parks. He is the grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of eleven. Also surviving are his brothers Leroy Connell Parks of Clarksville, David Parks of Lynchburg and sisters Audra Steele of Tullahoma, Marie Alcorn of Manchester and Joyce McGee of Shelbyville.

He was employed with the Tennessee Army National Guard obtaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer IV. He served with the NG units in Shelbyville, Tullahoma, and Columbia for 42 years. He was also a realtor and auctioneer for 40 years with Daniel-Neese Realty Company. Following his retirement from the Guard, he was active in The Gideons International, Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity (at one time Executive Director), and a long-time member of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church. His church was important to him where he served as Sunday School Director, deacon, and member of various committees.
