Coordinated by Allison Smith, Dana Edwards and the HMS faculty, proceeds from the event are earmarked for various needs in the school's athletic department.
"Harris Middle School has had a very successful year with several of our athletic teams claiming conference and tournament championships," said Jimmy Sullivan, assistant principal and athletic director.
The tradition at HMS has been to hang a banner in the gym in recognition of school teams which achieve championship status in their division. According to Sullivan, a lack of funding has meant that banners for championships earned in the 2011 and 2012 school years have not been purchased for display.
"Our baseball and softball teams are currently still competing in the end of year CTC (Central Tennessee Conference) conference tournaments as well," said Sullivan.
Once the gymnasium banners have been purchased, remaining funds will be used to transform an unused storage room into a multi-sport locker room for the soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, and golf team members.
Any remaining funds will be added to those raised by the school's booster club, the Eagles Nest, toward the purchase of a public address system for the gym, "The PA system will be used during school-wide assemblies, athletic events, as well as various events held in collaboration with the community."
Funds from the event will provide banners for the following sports and championships:
Football: 2010 CTC Co-Champions, 2011 CTC Bowl Champions
Boys basketball: 2010 CTC Conference and Tournament Champions
Tennis: 2010 and 2011 Conference Champions
Girls Soccer: 2011 CTC Conference Tournament Champions
Boys Soccer: 2012 CTC Conference Champions
