Post 23 sweeps Mt. Juliet in season openers
In a season-opening double header, the Senior American Legion Post 23 swept the Mt. Juliet Riverdogs in a pair of games last Saturday. Post 23 took game one 10-4 and game two 9-5.
Kalen Thompson started on the hill and went 4 1/3 innings. He struck out seven while only allowing four hits and one batter to reach base on balls.
David Pearson came in and pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up one earned run to close down game one.
Pearson led the way for Post 23 at the plate. He went 3-for-4 with a pair of singles and a double and two RBI. Heath Sain added a pair of singles as well.
Colin Baldwin got the start on the bump, but was relieved after two innings. Jonathan Pearson also put in a pair of innings on the mound before being relieved by Sean Davis.
The trio scattered eight hits and struck out eight batters collectively.
At the plate, Trent Layman went 2-for-4 with a triple and a single. Colton Gunn also had a solid night batting. He went 2-for-3 with a single and double.
Sain and Adrian Adams each collected hits for Post 23 as well.
Post 23 opens it's home schedule on Sunday against Columbia at the Shelbyville Central baseball field.
