Voting machine inspection not attended

Thursday, July 5, 2012

No candidates or party representatives turned out Tuesday for the customary voting machine inspection which precedes early voting for the Aug. 2 general and primary elections. Bedford County Administrator of Elections Summer Leverette, seen here holding the register tape documenting that each machine has been zeroed out in preparation for the vote, said it's typical for no one to attend, even though the inspections are announced to candidates, parties and the media. Behind Leverette are the machines that will be used for early voting, which runs July 13-28. A separate inspection will be held for the machines to be used on Election Day. Leverette reminded voters that they must bring government-issued photo identification, such as a driver's license, with them to the polls. That requirement took effect starting with the primary elections held in March of this year.
