Dan D. Mitchell, age 79 of Christiana, TN died Monday, July 9, 2012 at his home. He was a native of Christiana and was the son of the late Woodson E. and Carrie Wheelhouse Mitchell.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Taylor Mitchell; two sons, David Mitchell and his wife Gina of Christiana and Joe Mitchell and his wife Hope of Franklin, TN; one sister, Ruth Baskin and her husband Horace of Manchester, TN; and two grandchildren, Matt David Mitchell and his wife Lauren of Murfreesboro and Macy Jeanette Mitchell of Christiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 on Thursday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel. Brother Darryl Lewis will officiate and the song leader will be Eric Lamb. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell was a member and former elder of Crescent Church of Christ. He was born and raised on the family farm and farmed it for his entire life. Mr. Mitchell was a 1951 graduate of Christiana High School, was a member of the Farm Bureau of Rutherford County, served on the Board of Directors of Rutherford County Farmers Co-op, and was a former member of the Rutherford County Conservation Board.

Michael Bryant, Tony Randles, Randy Jolly, Bob Griffy, Steve Frost, Tommy Alderson, Richard Lester, John Duke and Matt Mitchell and Russell Creech will serve as active pallbearers.

C.J. Bryant, Charles William Lamb, Ted Hyer, John Baskin, Dwight Miller, Jason Taylor, Eddie Whittemore, Bobby Whittemore, Chris Piety, Gilbert Gordon, Sam Ayers, Ed Smotherman, Jimmy Bowen, John Bowen, Marvin Whitworth, Wendell Jones, Carter Woodruff, Charlie Bowman, Tony Adams, Danny Cooper, Jesse Wisener, Lewis Perry and the men of the Crescent Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Ghana West Africa Missions water well project or the Crescent Church of Christ Building Fund.
