Habitat leaders attend state conference

Bedford Builds Habitat for Humanity took part in the organization's state conference in Murfreesboro last week.

The conference opened with a golf tournament at Champions Run. Heritage Realty Group represented Bedford Builds, placing third.

Thursday's State Awards dinner recognized individuals and groups that significantly impacted the lives of local residents and communities. Habitat of Cleveland (Tenn.) was awarded Affiliate of the Year for the work they accomplished after tornadoes ripped through their county.

Carla Jarrell of Pinnacle Bank and Whirlpool Corporation were awarded the Community Leaders of the Year.

Habitat volunteers and staff who have served over 15 years were recognized at the state conference. Earl Pewitt, Construction Manager for Bedford Builds, was recognized for his 16 years of service.

"This is a great learning experience for the affiliates and gives us a chance to network with our colleagues across the state," said Pam Birtcil, executive director of the local chapter.

The theme for the conference was Empowering Tennessee. Guest speakers included Ted Fellman, executive director of Tennessee Housing Development Agency and Sen. Jim Tracy, Habitat Tennessee State Board Member.
