Com job offered to Titans producer

Thursday, August 2, 2012

Bedford County Emergency Communications District board interviewed four candidates for the position of com center director on Wednesday, voting to offer the position to Phillip Noel of Shelbyville.

The four short list candidates -- Noel, Linda Pillow of Shelbyville, Bernard Brown of Danville, Va., and Rebecca Green of Murfreesboro -- were selected from among 10 applicants who met the job qualifications.

Board's vote

After interviewing all four, board members voted for their first and second choices. Noel, a producer for the Tennessee Titans Radio Network, was on eight of the nine ballots, getting three first place votes and five second place votes, while none of the other candidates was on any more than five ballots.

Board member James Wilkerson moved to offer the job to Noel, and the board approved it.

Other issues

The previous director, Cathey Mathis, resigned in March, citing health concerns, immediately after terminating her daughter, Lisa Cook. Mathis had previously defended Cook against attempts by the board's personnel committee to remove her.

Jim Miller has served as interim director since that time.

Immediately following Wednesday's special called meeting, the board held a closed attorney-client session with its lawyer, Michael Mahn.
