Funeral services for Jesse Vernon Cook, age 89, of Shelbyville will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday August 6, 2012 at Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church with Pastors Scott Russell and Jonathan Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Mr. Vernon passed Thursday evening, August 2, 2012 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Mr. Vernon will take place Sunday from 2 until 5:00 p.m. at Doak-Howell Funeral Home.
Born June 8, 1923 in the Wheel Community of Bedford County, he was the son of the late Jesse Huel Cook and Ethel Neeley Cook and was preceded by his brothers and sisters, Harold Cook, Aliene Cook, Clifford Cook, Hershel Cook, Elton Cook, Cecil Cook, Junior Cook, Budford Cook, Alma Freeman and Kathleen Wells. Mr. Cook retired from Empire Pencil Co., was a member of the Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II at the Battle of the Bulge with the rank of E5 Sergeant.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years Faye Russell Cook, children David Michael Cook, Valerie Sue (Ricky) McConnell and Keith Cook, all of Shelbyville, sisters, Virginia (Leo) Flippo and Becky Sudberry, grandson Phillip (Britney) Cook McConnell, granddaughters Keeley Summer (Darrell) Cook Graves and Stasha Caye McConnell, and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Red Cross or Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church Building Fund.
