Linda B. Phelps McGee Thrasher

Thursday, August 9, 2012

Linda B. Phelps McGee Thrasher, age 67, died peacefully in her home in Jackson, Tennessee on Monday, August 6, 2012. The cause was pancreatic cancer.

Born September 26, 1944, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, to Mattie Alene Marr Phelps and Clifton "Toad" Phelps, she lived in many different places including Akron, Ohio, and Lynchburg, Tennessee, where she attended Moore County High School.

When she first moved to Jackson, she established her own business -- a beauty shop called the Magic Mirror. She then operated out of her home for the last 33 years.

Linda was a devout Christian, a devoted member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She found a deep and abiding love with her soul mate, Kenneth Thrasher. Her greatest joy in life was being mother to her three daughters, and she was a proud and doting grandmother.

Linda's joy for life was evident in her love for music and dance. She was the third curator of the International Rock-a-Billy Hall of Fame here in Jackson and taught country line dancing there. Honored by Southern Living Magazine as one of the best tour guides, she entertained visitors from across the country and around the world. In addition to line dancing at the Hall of Fame, she devoted many hours to organizing line dance classes for nursing homes and children. She touched many people in the region.

When not working in her prized flower garden, Linda loved to read and was herself an accomplished storyteller. She had many wonderful friends and treasured the countless hours of small talk and fellowship. Linda will be especially remembered for being a good listener, always doing for others and never expecting anything in return, and an invaluable source of support and encouragement to so many.

Linda is survived by her husband, Kenneth, mother Mattie, sister JoAnna Phelps Sullivan, and her daughters, Farrah McGee (Jeff) Wyatt, Jennifer McGee, Julie (Eduardo) Tejada, and 11 grandchildren. Linda was preceded in death by her father Clifton and her brother Clifton Neil Phelps.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, August 12, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1050 N. Parkway, Jackson, Tennessee. A celebration of Linda's life will immediately follow with a fun-filled reception. Bring your dancing shoes!

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Linda McGee Thrasher to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
