Davis chosen as Thomas Magnet principal
Dulcenia S. "Dulcie" Davis has been named principal of Thomas Magnet School to replace Timothy Harwell, who became principal of Cascade High School last week, school officials announced Friday.
Davis began her career in 1982 at Harris Middle School where she taught eighth grade math, computer skills, music, reading and science. She was assistant principal at HMS for four and a half years before being assigned as assistant principal at Eakin Elementary for the prior school year.
Davis received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and her master's from Middle Tennessee State University. She has completed an additional 30 hours of graduate study at MTSU and Cumberland University.
"Mrs. Davis' 30 years in education will provide an excellent foundation for the type of leadership that we expect at Thomas Magnet. Her relationships with our community and other stakeholders of the school system will definitely be an asset for the school," superintendent Dr. Ray Butrum said.
"We are fortunate that she has had previous experiences with high-achieving students while at Harris Middle School and can enhance and continue the vision at Thomas."
Harwell served as the first principal of TMS when it was established in 2009. At Cascade, he replaces Sharon Edwards, who resigned earlier this month after more than 30 years with the school system.
