BELL BUCKLE -- Starting a program from scratch takes time. Eventually, the hardships of early season pay off.
Things are starting to pay off at the Webb School.
Webb opened the 2012 high school football season with a 21-6 victory over Lighthouse Christian on Friday night.
Led by Alex Hulsey's three-touchdown night, the Feet were able to contain the visitors while exploiting the weak points on defense.
In the first quarter, Webb juniors Chris Burgoon and Alex Hulsey put together a solid 70-yard drive that was capped off by a 1-yard Hulsey touchdown.
After seizing early control, Webb never looked back. The Feet added another touchdown in the second quarter when Hulsey scampered into the end zone for a touchdown after a handoff from Burgoon to put Webb up 13-0.
Lighthouse trimmed the lead later in the quarter, but a failed two-point conversion attempt left the score 13-6 heading into the half.
Webb added one final insurance touchdown when Hulsey struck again, this time on a two-yard blast into the end zone.
The Feet dealt the crushing blow with a successful two-point conversion to go up 21-6.
Webb held possession of the ball for the most of the fourth and ran the clock to seal the deal on the week one victory.
Burgoon was 2-for-6 passing for 11 yards and had 19 carries for 71.
Alex Hulsey piled up most of the yardage for the Feet, tallying 159 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. Ethan Arnold also had a solid night running the ball. He had 11 touches good enough for 60 yards.
Defensively, Webb was led by Sam Coleman and Houston Jones, who each had nine tackles to their credit. Coleman also had a sack and recovered two fumbles.
Webb returns for another home game on Friday as Franklin Christian pays a visit to Bell Buckle.
