Golf season winds down as competition heats up

While the regular season for area golf is winding down, the competitions aiming at state championships are gearing up and getting as competitive as they've been all season.

Webb, Cascade, and Community each competed in area matches on Thursday afternoon with all three picking up team wins.

The Cascade Champions competed in their final regular season match at Cedar Crest in Murfreesboro against Middle Tennessee Christian and Central Magnet School of Murfreesboro.

The Champs emerged victorious with the lowest team score of 160, besting second place MTCS (175) and Central Magnet (164).

Lucas Dunnavant was the low scorer for the Champs, posting a 38 in the nine-hole round. Bryce Clinton carded the second-lowest score for the Champs with a 39. Jake Pimental finished two strokes back with a 41 while Tanner Burks closed out the varsity scoring for Cascade with a 42.

Chad Gordon and Tyler Huff also competed with the Champs on Thursday, turning in scores of 45 and 46, respectively.

Community 185, Cornersville 205 -- While Cascade was busy picking up a win at Cedar Crest, the Community Vikings had their hands full facing Conersville at Saddle Creek on Thursday.

The Purple and Gold had a solid outing against the Bulldogs, besting them 185-205 in the dual team meet.

Per usual, Zack West was the match medalist with his field-besting 36. Jake Garrette and Dillon West each carded a 44 while Noland Wisener rounded out the Varsity scoring with a 61. Austin Sanders also competed with a 63 to his credit.

Both Cascade and Community will compete in the District 11A/AA tournament on Monday at Henry Horton with the opening tee times set for 8 a.m.

Webb 363, Zion Christian 411 -- The Webb School also picked up a big win on Thursday over Zion Christian at River Bend. The two teams faced off in an 18-hole showdown with John Wang's 83 leading the Feet's low scores. Ben Morris finished the match with a 91 while Zach Norris finished with a 93. Zach Ring rounded out the scoring for the Feet with a 95. Eli Freeman and Phillip James also competed for the Feet, finishing with a 97 and 104, respectively.

Webb will compete in the region tournament on Monday at Old Hickory to compete for an appearance in the state tournament. The top three teams who post the lowest scores will advance as a team, while the top three members not on a qualifying team will earn a berth to compete in the state competition as individuals.
