WARTRACE -- The Cascade Lady Champions have had a tough week against some of the area's best competition. So far, Page and Coffee County dealt the Lady Champs a pair of loses by scores of 4-1 and 4-0.

While those matches went down as losses, the Lady Champs were able to take experience away from both matches, which will be key in moving forward throughout the rest of the season.

Experience pays

The Lady Champs used some of that experience on Thursday night as they defeated visiting MTCS 3-0.

Cascade put the first score on the board when Tori Slater ripped a shot to the back of the net on a rebound attempt.

The Lady Cougars had an opportunity to score with three consecutive corner kicks but some hard-nosed Cascade defense left the Lady Cougs empty handed on each try.

Katelynn Edde nearly netted the second Lady Champion goal of the match nearing the 20 minute mark of the first half when she had an open shot following a corner, however the Lady Cougar goalkeeper came up with a huge save.

More scores

Eventually, Cascade did tack on another goal in the first half.

On a drive down the right wing, Courtnie Carter was taken down just outside the box and awarded a free kick attempt. She lined up her shot and ricocheted the ball into the goal off the top crossbar to give the Lady Champs their second score of the night.

Cascade added one more insurance goal in the second half and cruised to the 3-0 win on Thursday.

The Lady Champs will return to their home turf on Monday afternoon as they welcome Cornersville at 4:30 p.m.

MTCS 0 0 -- 0
