Heritage South to host Good Sam can drive

Wednesday, September 26, 2012

Heritage South Community Credit Union's Canned Food Drive to benefit the local Good Samaritan Association will be this Saturday, Sept 29.

"This will be our third canned food drive for Good Sam," CEO Marvin McBee stated. "This year we've expanded our efforts and planned the event on Saturday so more of our neighbors can participate. The entire community is invited. It is an excellent way to help our neighbors when they need help the most."

The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the credit union office in Shelbyville, 763 N Main Street. Anyone who makes a food or cash donation will be served lunch by the credit union staff.

Heritage South will donate 50 cents for every food item received the day of the food drive, up to $750. This will allow Good Samaritan the ability to purchase items that they do not receive during the drive.

This year, giant inflatables and face painting will be available for children to enjoy.

Cathy Miller, executive director of Good Samaritan, indicated that all types of canned food items are needed as the demand on the organization continues to increase. Tuna and other canned meats, boxed macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and canned fruits and vegetables are among the items most needed. Please remember to check the dates on food. Outdated items will not be accepted.
