UNIONVILLE -- All season, the Cascade Middle Champions have been racking up points and creating a huge name for themselves.

On Thursday night, the Community Middle Vikings got a taste of just how big of a name the Champs have made.

Cascade piled up and impressive 40 first-half points and coasted off the momentum to a 46-0 win.

The Champs aired it out for 174 yards and out-gained the Vikings 199 yards to just 47.

Quick strike

Cascade found its first score just two offensive plays into the game when quarterback Hunter Calvert made a backwards pass to Kevin Conn, who in turn launched it down field, finding Hayden Edmondson on a 45-yard touchdown pass.

While the Cascade offense got working early, the Viking offense was struck by the turnover bug on three consecutive possessions, leading to 20 more points in the first quarter alone.

On their first two plays, the Vikings fumbled the ball into Cascade hands, setting up quick-scoring touchdowns following each turnover.

On the third Community possession, Lewis Faulk got a perfect read on a pass-attempt by the Vikings and hauled in an interception. He returned the interception 26 yards to the house for the pick six.

More scores

Cascade scored two more times in the second quarter to hold a 40-0 advantage after the first half.

The Champs scored one more time on a 51-yard pass play during the first drive of the fourth quarter.

While the Cascade offense was hot early, late in the game the Community defense came up with a handful of key stops.

Offensively, the Vikings struggled throughout most of the game, but did manage a late-game drive.

Vikes on the move

Starting on their own 23, the Purple and Gold mobilized the run game on gains of 25 yards and two runs of 11 yards each to move deep into Cascade territory.

But as with their early drives, the charge was halted by another Community turnover, this time ending the game before the Vikings could find the end zone.

Defensively, the Vikings made big plays at times, including forcing a turnover on downs on their own 6-yard line midway through the second quarter.

Teams will begin play in the Duck River Valley Conference Championship next Thursday night.
