A young Bedford County man lost his life in a one-vehicle crash late Friday night on Halls Mill Road.

Adam Wortham, 18, of Old Columbia Road was dead on the scene of the accident, which occurred approximately a mile north of the Wheel Road intersection, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Kevin T. Spence, 17, of Paschal Road was airlifted from the crash site to Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was listed in stable condition Saturday, according to a VMC spokesperson.

Overcorrected

Wortham was northbound on Halls Mill Road, attempted to negotiate a right-hand curve, ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and ran off the right side of the road, State Trooper Tommie Boleyn said. Both passengers were ejected from Wortham's truck.

Seat belts were not in use and would have made a difference, Boleyn's report said. The report also said speed was a factor in the crash.
