Lizzie M. Peoples has announced her candidacy for a 3rd Ward seat on Shelbyville City Council in the Nov. 6 general election.

She is a member of Shelbyville Kiwanis Club and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is a past member of Bedford County Board of Education and past president of the Women's Democratic Club. She is involved in numerous other organizations and is an active member of Victory Baptist Church. She recently retired from Jostens Inc.

Peoples has lived in Shelbyville for the past 47 years and is the wife of Clyde Peoples. She has two daughters and three grandchildren.

"I would be honored to serve our community," said Peoples. "I will work passionately to represent the people of my district, Shelbyville and Bedford County. I will not support or vote for a garbage tax and/or a wheel tax. Please go to the polls and vote for me on Nov. 6."
