Flu vaccine at health department

Friday, October 5, 2012

Influenza, or flu, season is here, and the Bedford County Health Department is ready to offer flu vaccine to area residents. No appointment is needed; vaccine will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

"It takes about two weeks to be protected after you get the flu vaccine, so it's a good idea to get the vaccine as soon as it's available," said Angie Faulkner, Public Health County Director. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months of age and older get a flu vaccine each year, and we urge everyone to take this important preventive step to protect health in our community."

Vaccine will be provided at a cost of $20 based on income. The clinic is located at 140 Dover St. in Shelbyville and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Citizens can connect with the Tennessee Department of Health on Facebook and on Twitter ( http://www.twitter.com/TNDeptofHealth ).
