Known for its exceptional food by not only patients but also community members who visit the cafeteria regularly for a hot, hearty and healthy lunch, Heritage Medical Center also promotes healthy living through its various programs and dietary staff.
Heritage Medical Center is again a supporting premiere gourmet sponsor for the return of the Times-Gazette / Relish Cooking Show and Expo this month. The event, which promises to combine helpful kitchen tips and tricks with lots of fun, will take place Oct. 23. The expo doors open at 4 p.m. with the show beginning at 7.
"The energy of the show" coupled with the laughter and fun of the show and expo served as highlights of the last event for Heritage Medical CEO Dan Buckner, who said he's looking forward to the show's return.
On the day of the event, Heritage Medical Center will be visited by Chef Steven Petusevsky, a new face to the cooking show.
"Chef Steve" is known for combining flavor and nutrition with his Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. He is the author of "The Whole Foods Market Cookbook" and has contributed to Cooking Light, Natural Health, Fine Cooking, The LA Times Syndicate, Food & Wine and Self.
"Chef Steve" is also a syndicated columnist for the Chicago Tribune news service, where his weekly column, "Vegetarian Today," appears in hundreds of newspapers.
An important part of the job of the hospital's dietary staff is to introduce healthier eating habits to patients. Buckner is looking forward to a pre-show visit by Chef Steve to the hospital, who'll inspire his staff to continue to find creative ways serve quality and tasty food at the hospital. He said the chef visit to the hospital prior to the 2009 show had long-lasting effects and the dietary staff loved swapping recipes with the celebrity chef.
During the show, Buckner will also take the stage to speak to the crowd about the latest news at Heritage Medical Center.
This year's show will combine fun with a more educational, more real-world approach, featuring more realistic home-cooking recipes and situations.
"(The show) is an important opportunity to demonstrate to the community that Heritage Medical Center's primary goal is to spotlight good food and eating habits as central to keeping you out of the hospital," Buckner said.
The Times-Gazette / Relish Cooking Show and Expo will take place Oct. 23 at Calsonic Arena. Expo doors open at 4 p.m. with the show kicking off at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance at the Times-Gazette, Kincaid's or Lowery Jewelers.
