WARTRACE -- All season long, the Cascade Middle Champions have been the team to beat and with each win, the target on their backs got a little bit bigger.

After a strong first half against the MTCS Cougars on Saturday night in the DRC Championship game, the Cougars finally got the upper hand on the Champs and were able to score 16 points in the fourth quarter, dealing the Champs their only loss on the season, 22-18.

Champs score

It was a sluggish, defensive game in the early goings, but Cascade eventually broke through when Kevin Conn picked up a fumble and scampered 20 yards for the scoop-n-score about halfway through the second quarter.

Cascade struck again soon after when quarterback Hayden Edmondson connected with Hunter Calvert to go up 12-0 heading into the half.

While the Cougars were able to cut the deficit in half in the third on a 9-yard touchdown, the strong fourth quarter by the Cougars was fueled by 105 yards gained.

Final attempt

Calvert did his part in the fourth when he returned a kickoff to the house for the 65-yard touchdown, but Cascade couldn't mobilize any more offense to make a run at the Cougars.

On Saturday, the Champs were held to just completing just 7-of-22 passing attempts for 85 yards and only 33 yards on the ground on 12 carries.

While the season ends with a tough loss, the Champs still had a successful season and close the year with an 8-1 overall record.
