In one of their best performances of the year, Shelbyville Central's Golden Eaglettes claimed a 3-1 victory over visiting Smyrna in a non-district soccer match on Saturday afternoon.

The Eaglettes (6-7-4) were steady in all phases of the game, despite playing with several starters unavailable.

Standout freshman Olivia Doak scored a hat trick, collecting all three goals for the winners.

"We played with what's called a low-line of confrontation which means we just kind of stay back and let the other team come at us and then we counter attach," Central coach Neal Gordon said.

"We thought that was our best option coming into this game. We had to withstand a lot of pressure from a great Smyrna team but our girls were up to the challenge. We played with a lot of self discipline and control."

Freshman Savannah Odeneal was in goal for the Eaglettes.

Shelbyville plays at Coffee County on Tuesday.
