MURFREESBORO -- All good things come to an end. Such is true for the Community Viqueens' run through the district tournament. On Thursday night, the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds matched up with a trip to the region on the line.
Despite making several runs at the Lady Cougars, the Viqueens couldn't come up with several key points to put the match away, as the Viqueens were dealt a tough, 3-2 loss.
Community got off to a good start, though, picking up the 25-21 win to take a 1-0 advantage. But the Lady Cougars answered with wins in set two and set three by scores of 18-25 and 23-25 to turn the tables on the visitors.
The Viqueens weren't about to go quietly with a set four loss. They were able to come up with necessary points to even the set score at two apiece, sending the match to a fifth set tiebreaker.
While the Viqueens found their offensive momentum in the fourth set, they struggled to find the drive to keep the spark alive in the fifth set as they were defeated 6-15.
All-District selections Hannah Busbee and Kelsey Dennis led the team on Thursday night. Busbee accounted for 13 kills, a pair of aces, and one block against the Lady Cougars.
Dennis piled up a whopping 27 assists to go along with her ace and block. Senior Katie Leverette led the team with 15 kills and one ace.
